After six years, 700+ shows, several releases, countless tours of North America, Europe, Australia and Asia, Ruiner will be calling it a day in October 2010 (as October 5th is the anniversary of the band’s first show). Vocalist Rob Sullivan commented, “This wasn’t an easy choice to make. All of us started playing in bands when we were in middle school and for the first time in 12-13 years, some of us won’t be having band practice on a weekly basis. But we know this is a choice we needed to make. We always ran this band at 100% and some of us now feel like we don’t have the desire to tour anymore. We aren’t the kind of band who wants to release records and rarely play the music, so we decided it is now an appropriate time to hang it up. We got to see the world a few times over and with that met a lot of incredible people. We will all be forever grateful for that, but we know this decision is the right one to make. I’m sure I could give many more reasons as to why, but the gist of it is if this band can’t be done at full speed, we feel it is better to stop.”

St. Albans hardcore/metal crew Your Demise (Earache Records) are back in the country, currently holed up recording in Reading, UK, working on the follow up to 2009’s critically acclaimed breakthrough album “Ignorance Never Dies.”

The band have been writing in California after months of touring and return to the studio with long time collaborator Jon Mitchell at Outhouse Studios and take a brief break from recording to play this year’s Slam Dunk festival this weekend alongside New Found Glory and Alkaline Trio.

Guitarist Stu Paice notes: “The new songs are a very big progression, the best stuff the band has ever written by far. It’s a big step up in sound - I think the most important thing is that band is 100% proud for the first time for the album we have produced!”

Canadian death metal/hardcore band Despised Icon is apparently breaking up. Formed in 2002, the group has released 4 great albums and 1 DVD so far.The following statement has surfaced on their official site:”The time has come for us to move on. Some of us have recently reached a new chapter in their lives, starting families, buying houses and pursuing other careers to make it all happen. Writing music, touring and leaving home for months at a time is slowly becoming impossible because of that. We all decided that it’d be best to pull the plug now and end things right.”It’s hard to believe we started this band almost 10 years ago already. At first, Despised Icon was mostly just an excuse to hang out, write brutal slam riffs and play local shows once in a while. With your support, we got the opportunity to actually play music for a living, make friends around the world, be MVPs and travel to places we never even dreamed of visiting in our lifetime. Thank you all for some of the best times of our lives.”We’re currently working on setting up our final tours in Canada, USA and Europe. Ceremony are excited to announce the release of their third full-length, Rohnert Park, which will be available on June 8th 2010 via Bridge Nine Records. Rohnert Park is the band’s finest material to date and mixes elements from their past work while exploring new territory for the band. The names comes from a place just north of San Francisco in Sonoma County is Rohnert Park, CA, where several members of Ceremony grew up. Don’t let that fool you, though; Ceremony’s punk stomp is apparent on Rohnert Park and Ross Farrar’s vocals are as ranting as ever. Recorded this past winter in Oakland, CA with Dan Rathbun (Tragedy, From Ashes Rise).

New York City hardcore band Sick Of It All will release their Century Media Records debut on April 20th. Their first new release in four years, the effort is titled “Based On A True Story” and we have obtained a track from the album to exclusively unveil today. The song is called “Death or Jail” and Sick Of It All drummer Armand Majidi commented: “We wrote the song ‘Death or Jail (based on a true story)’ about friends of ours that broke away and ended up following a path that led them to self-destruction or incarceration. We all know people who have made these huge mistakes, and it’s a really difficult thing to explain, especially when they come from the same place and common background. They don’t just turn their backs on their friends, it’s as if they’re turning their backs on themselves, shutting themselves into a reality that can offer nothing but stress, violence, and wickedness. Thank goodness we had the outlet of hardcore to help us vent our frustrations, or we all might have found ourselves in a similar place. This song is dedicated to those friends that we wish could have made better choices.”
